Attic Brewing

Attic Brewing Co. traces its roots back to June 2010, when founders Laura and Todd Lacy began homebrewing in the attic of their Germantown apartment in Philadelphia. Their first batch was a black IPA, and despite challenges like beer leaking through the ceiling to their downstairs neighbor, they were hooked on brewing.

Laura, who left a long-term retail career, teamed up with Todd—himself an experienced homebrewer—and after attending the Craft Brewers Conference in Philly in 2016, the idea of opening a brewery became real.

Attic Brewing officially opened in January 2020 in Germantown—a historic Philadelphia neighborhood that hadn’t had a brewery in over 100 years.

Their taproom features 14 rotating beers on tap, complemented by a 250‑seat outdoor beer garden. Food trucks and proximity to Deke’s BBQ enhance the experience. The space became a neighborhood hub shortly after opening and was especially embraced during the pandemic with outdoor service and beer shipping within Pennsylvania.

Attic emphasizes sustainability—using repurposed materials, no plasticware, and donating spent grains to local farms and gardens. They also channel a portion of profits into local arts and nonprofits via their Give Back Beer Series, totaling over $25,000 donated so far.

Beer quality has earned national recognition: multiple Great American Beer Festival medals—Silver for Bloodhound Brown Ale (2020), Unresolved Maibock (2021), and Over There Belgian Tripel (Bronze in 2023), plus a 2024 Silver for Pitouchi Belgian Strong Dark Ale.

In April 2025, Attic Brewing was named one of six finalists for the Samuel Adams Brewing & Business Experienceship competition—a national platform offering mentorship and collaboration on a new beer. Attic entered with its La Libertad Mexican Lager, aimed at offering a local, lower-cost alternative to popular imports.

In June 2024, the brewery joined forces with two other similarly named breweries (in Birmingham, UK, and Malaga, Spain) to release a collaborative hazy IPA called Trifecta, timed with the Phillies’ London series. All three Attic breweries began in attics and share similar origin stories.

The brewery continues to host frequent live events—music, comedy, themed nights—and remains a community focal point in Germantown, pairing with food trucks and adjacent restaurants.
