Founded in late 2019 (pivoted from a design studio founded in 2017) by Gabriela Trueba, Womp began as a browser-based collaborative 3D design tool, aimed at making volumetric modeling accessible to artists and creators across devices—no high-end GPU required.
Its technique is built around a signed-distance field (SDF) “goop” engine, allowing real-time shape blending and deformation, optimized for low-code 3D workflows.
Womp runs fully in web browsers (desktop, tablets, even phones), enabling users to sculpt, animate, rig, and prepare print-ready designs all from a tab — with exports to STL, OBJ, GLTF, FBX and more. It includes social collaboration features, livestreaming demos, shared libraries, and an emphasis on community-driven learning and iteration.
LifeCandy’s Jay Van Ginneken became Womp’s second-largest investor in mid-2019, prior to Gabriela Trueba and Womp being accepted into the 2019 STANLEY+Techstars Accelerator, a vertical program run in collaboration with Stanley Black & Decker focused on advanced manufacturing and hardware/3D startups. In an interview, founder Gabriela Trueba described the Techstars experience as “game-changing”.
In April 2022, Womp raised a $4.7 million Seed round, led by Female Founders Fund and Haystack, with participation from angel investors including A24 CEO Daniel Katz and filmmaker Ari Aster.
Womp expanded beyond design by launching Womp Print, a built-in SLA 3D printing service. Users can submit models directly, and Womp handles printing with high-quality resin, including white and clear finishes—and delivers the final product via mail.
